To promote preconception health by
providing primary health care providers with the tools, resources, and
information necessary to easily incorporate preconception counseling
within EVERY health care encounter with women of reproductive age.
With tremendous advances in perinatal medicine and technology,
infant mortality rates in South Carolina (and the United States) have
dropped considerably over the last several decades. However,
little
progress has been made in the prevention of morbidity and mortality
related to congenital anomalies and preterm birth. A new approach to perinatal health
is needed; one that incorporates preconception and interconception health
promotion into the primary health care of all women of childbearing age.
The www.B4Pregnancy.org web site provides readily accessible, up-to-date preconception and
reproductive health information for primary health care providers and
educators.
